Every now and then, a new Interview Success Formula member asks me:
“Alan, it’s been 17 years since I last had to do this! Has the interview process changed much since then? If so, how?”
Here’s what I tell them:
Employers have been “interviewing” people for literally thousands of years. And during all that time, interviewers have essentially been digging for the same information, because they’ve had the same concerns.
That said, these last few years have brought rapid social and technological change unlike anything the world has ever seen before.
What this means is that, today, I’d say around 80-85% of the interview process is the same as it was five, ten, maybe even twenty years ago.
On the other hand, there are certain recent trends that change how interviewers appraise and select candidates. You need to be on top of these trends.
